Oxford

by Imbi - last update: Oct 14, 2003

Oxford is in a class of its own - a city like no other. A cosmopolitan seat of learning and centre for the Arts.
Within one square mile alone the city has more than 600 buildings of architectural and historical interest. Oxford University consists of 42 different colleges and halls sited in various parts of the city. Its medieval origins and eventful history have produced a thrilling blend of architectural styles. The students have created a vibrant culture of restaurants, pubs, markets, 'fringe' artistic events and bookshops. Take a stroll through the colleges' peaceful quadrangles and immaculate gardens and take in the atmosphere of England's seat of learning.
For the visitor there is a wide variety of entertainment from a wonderful range of musical concerts to the stimulation of internationally acclaimed art exhibitions, museums and theatre. Enjoy the relaxed settings of riverside walks, picnics, sightseeing and that renowned pastime - punting!

Very good tips and photos. Interestingly, our pages are complementary, you have the things that I don't and vice versa. That's partly because I didn't have a camera on my first visit to Oxford and of course wasn't a member of VT on either of them.
