Freetown, its capital, lying on the beach of the Atlantic used to be a great place and will be again one day. If you really want to experience real tropical climate and not-tourist-spoiled African live, SL is the country to go to. As long as you don't deal with diamonds and gold you are mostly welcomed.
SL is even a place to relax. Easy accessible and endless and rather empty beaches are in a bike-distance from the citycentre.
