The harshness of the Alaskan winter is tempered by the stark beauty of the scenery and the warmth of the people that live there. The days are short, but the sunsets are spectacular, the Northern Lights can come out at night, and there is less danger of bears if you are south of polar bear territory. Hotels are much cheaper in the winter too. |

Sometimes, the winter scene has a poignant tinge to it. This reminds me of my 1st trip to the Canadian Rockies. Like the weather, the trip is frozen in my memory & there's definitely a specialness to it! |
