In June, 2001 the band I work for performed at the Roskilde Festival. We stuck around Northern Europe for about 10 days, playing other festivals, but none as big as this one. Around 150 acts on 6 different stages!

The Roskilde Festival is actually a giant fundraising event. Apart from 12 paid staff, the entire event is run by up to 18,000 unpaid volunteers. Proceeds from ticket sales are donated to various charities around the world. You would never know the staff are unpaid, they were extremely professional in every way and things ran very smoothly, at least in our experience. I should also comment that as a sound technician, I was thrilled with the quality of equipment that I was given to work on. Well done!

70,000 people attended the Roskilde Festival but I'm reasonably sure that I was the only one wearing a Newark Bears shirt.
