Nagasaki, Japanese home of "Hollanders" (Dutch)

by Pavlik_NL - last update: Jan 6, 2003

In history Holland & Nagasaki go back a long time

Watching over the bay from Glover Garden
In Nagasaki is a place that used to be an island in the harbour. Here is where the Dutch more then 400 years ago started their strange friendship with the Japanese people that lived in an isolated country. Only the Dutch were more or less welcome to the Land of the Rising Sun that was ruled by the Shogun. The Nagasaki people are still wonderfully hospitable and go through enormous efforts to meet your wishes. Nowhere in Japan we met such heartwarming guides and I am still very thankful for our friends there. So much I wish to come in Nagasaki again. Just outside the town there is a special attractionpark called "Huis ten Bosch". Here the Japanese copied (and they are very good in that) many Dutch buildings on 1:1-scale. I didn't go there as I am from The Netherlands, so why should I. But I would like to invite especially all Japanese (and above all Nagasaki-citizens) to come to The Netherlands and see what it is realy about. Let me be your guide here as I was guided so wonderfully there. On the other side of town is the Mount Unsen-peninsula. This active volcanic region is breathtaking in all seasons.

Again a place with sadly enough a large rol in world history, because of the atomic bom that the americans dropped on the city!
