If you're not close to Petrified Forest NP then ..

If you don't want to drive many extra miles to see petrified forest N.P. in Arizona, you might settle for the petrified forest along the way from Arches N.P. to Bryce Canyon N.P. by stopping for a walk in the nice village of Escalante. Here they have a small park that offers you the opportunity to see it with your own eyes that wood can become stone. The friendly silent place Escalante is also good for a tasty lunch. Here I drank the best hazelnutcoffee I ever tasted and the hospitability is outstanding. If we wouldn't have made reservations somewhere else, I surely would have taken a room in the local inn.
