Las Vegas, take a gamble by coming here

by Pavlik_NL - last update: Jan 3, 2003

Beware before ...

Light-splendour looks inviting
Okay, I must admit: Las Vegas was for me personally a big disappointment. Not that I lost so much money there, but after the natural wonders of it's direct environment, the flickering light of the gamblingcapitol were a anti-climax. As being a person that always apreciates the original better then a copy, this deserttown was also a shock. Fake New-York, fake Pyramids, fake Venice, fake Rome, fake ... well, you catch my drift. Tip: if you go to the Western States, start here and work your way around from there. Las Vegas is definately something you have to see once in your life, but ... hold on tight if you love nature, originality or your money.
Also a shock was the fact that there was so much to do around prostitution. Even for me, being Dutch and enormously in favour of tolerance, I didn't like it at all to be stopped on the streets and given booklets in which beautiful girls sold themselves (or were sold) for shamely low prices. Even my girlfriend got a booklet to take a pick!!! That these people approach single guys would not bother me, but we were walking hand in hand and then I realy put some questionmarks to the people that miss-use the liberated laws of Nevada. Gambling and prostitution should not be prohibited (you will never make it disappear), but should be controlled and guided (the Dutch system that according to the results works).
Sorry for mixing some points of view with travelpleasures, but I only hope to warn some people that feel the same about certain things to not get shocked in the way that I did in Las Vegas, that definately can be a thrilling place to visit.

Las Vegas is definitely a fantasy world, not real at all, but fun for those of us who haven't yet had a chance to see the real thing. As a middle-aged woman, I haven't run into some of the same problems as you!
