Death Valley, this place is hot (and dry)

by Pavlik_NL - last update: Oct 22, 2002

Lowest place in the America's

"Badwater" (not to be compared with "bathwater".
The hottest place on earth and we were there on a cool day (pfff, only 55 degrees Celsius). Extravagance you can find in Furnace Creek, were artificially an oase is created including a golfcourse (what are they trying to proove here?). Nature is estonishing and as being a Dutchman we almost took a bath in the dangerously salty water of the lowest point in North-America: Badwater (in Dutch Bathwater is written "Badwater"). Strange colours can be discovered in the rocks around and at the Devils Golfcourse you play with a quiet big handicap. Golden Canyon in the bright shining sun looks indeed golden and should be visited besides the other mentioned places. In the Northern section are the sanddunes and a strangely shaped castle from a certain Scotty. One thing is sure, I never swam at 23 pm while the temperature was still 45 degrees. Just for that it is recommendable to stay at Furnace Creek Range in the middle of the Valley of Death.

I love deserts, and Death Valley looks beautiful. I'd visit in the winter though, when it's hopefully a little cooler.
