Nightlife Spot: Leidse Plein and Rembrandt Plein

Amsterdam is the centre of nightlife in The Netherlands. Best places to be are the Leidse Plein or the Rembrandt Plein, where big concentrations of cafés, bars, dancings and discotheques are. During the day and warm sumerevenings the terraces are booming and the atmosphere is the best in the world.

Amsterdam might be called the house-capitol in the world (although I personally would choose to give that name to Rotterdam). However, parties are around the weekend in numerous places, clubs and (secret)places.

Restaurant with menus from all natioanlities are throughout the town. Call out the country, there is a restaurant in town that serves the dishes of it.

Amsterdam has many theatres, concerthalls and cinema's. This way of entertainment is thus also easy to do.

Nightlife Spot: Too many to tell

Coffeeshops, Amsterdam has many and is worldfamous for them. By the way, this year it was a jubilee-year for these specific type of cafés. It was 30 years ago that "Mellow Yellow" opened it's doors as ... you never guess ... TEAhouse!
Anyway, as no doubt already knows, coffeehouses do serve coffee, but are mostly famous for the selling of various kinds of softdrugs in "personal amounts". That means that one can get a joint, but not a kilo of marihuana. Most famous in Holland is our own "Nederwiet" (Canabis Satifa Hollandica). Some people make a big deal out of the fact that the Dutch have such liberal drugpolicy, but never forget that it's about softdrugs NOT harddrugs. Just go inside and try a joint ... you should try at least anything once!

Nightlife Spot: Museumnacht (Museum night)

Once each year (in 2003 it was the 8th of November) all museums open for the night and have special entertainment for the visitors. The "museumnacht" (museum night) has a truely spectacular ambiance and is recommended dighly to all that are in Amsterdam at the time it is held. Nightlife Spot: De kleine Komedie

To enjoy an evening with Dutch performance art, one should go to the small and personal environment of "de kleine komedie" (= the small comedy). In this Amsterdam theatre, fine artists give their wonderful performances, vareing from music to stand up comedy, as well as from mime to conferencing art.

Nightlife Spot: Tuschinski Theatre Amsterdam

Tuschinski, a Jewish guy from Poland, opened the first Dutch cinema in Rotterdam. This theatre however was destroyed in the bombing of this great Dutch city in 1940, when the Nazi's invaded the Netherlands. His second cinema, with the same name, was built in Amsterdam and is now-a-days the number one cinema of our country. Here is where the mayor premieres are and the famous hollywood stars come to watch the kick-off of their movie (film) in the Netherlands or (sometimes) Europe.

Nightlife Spot: Paradiso Amsterdam

One of the greatest places where one can go to a concert in Amsterdam is Paradiso. This remarkable place (it used to be a church!) has great accoustics and a wonderful set up. The stage is always close and only a few thousand people fit into the place. This means quite personal concerts from still great artists. On the other hand it also means being in time with ordering tickets.

Nightlife Spot: Bourbon Street Bluesclub

Bourbon Street is a great place for a night with Rhythm and Blues live music. Famous and unknown artists play here and the sound is always great. Especially for the lovers of (real) music, I'ld recommend to go here and enjoy a night in Amsterdam.
