Between Nijmegen and Arnhem in the riverlands. In the weapon of Bemmel are three towers visible. These towers are called in old fashioned Dutch language "Bemmels". The aristocratic family of Van Bemmel, gave the name to the village, which later became a town by the hand of a Duke of Guelderland. Still the small town holds many old houses, mansions and even a few castles. One is now-a-days the townhall and the place where my sister married (very romantic place!). |
| | ... and along the dikes to Gendt From Bemmel it is only a short biketrip to Gendt, a place that I like to mention here a little as well (sorry, I'm not going to built a seperat page for this little village). Over the dieks one reaches Gendt in the most lovely way and on the dike is the statue of the village-sign, the goose. Also along the dike you will find the little church that is split in two parts. During a bombing in worldwar II the middle part got destroyed and since then this has become the new burialground, while the tower and last piece of the church are standing tall. |
