"Dante" is located in the old "Vleeshuis" - Breda

Dante: Cafe in a monumental place

On the overklow between the "Malieveld" and the Marketsquare there is a cafe that is called "Dante". Well, the fact that it is a cafe is not the first thing you will notice, as it is situated within an old monumental house that in medieval times had a special task. It is the "Vleeshuis" (meathall). Here meat was not only traded by contracts, but on the first floor the quite important "Saint Joris-guild" of the butchers had their seat.

Favorite Dish: Fine thing that here they serve one of the best bears in The Netherlands: Grolsch.

Doesn;t this look very inviting to me! - Breda

De Boerenstamppot: Traditional Dutch dishes

This restaurant will surely be visited by me in the near future. The name says enough: this is the place to enjoy traditional Dutch food.

Favorite Dish: "Boerenstamppot" is a groupname of winterdishes that can best be compared to mixes or stews of vegetables (kale, sauerkraut, spinach etc) and (mashed) potatoes. With a good saucage and sme thick gravy it is just deliscious.

Sam Sam ... Dutch for "together / sharing" - Breda

Sam Sam ... Dutch for "together / sharing"

Sam Sam: A memorial-place for two VT-members

Just out of nowhere we suddenly met. In the morning I accidently saw Nathalie_B online and I knew she just came over to The Netherlands. Question: "where are you this afternoon?" Answer: "obviously in cafe Sam Sam going through introduction-experiences." I had to be for work in the South-West and hopped over and we met. A first "life" VT-meeting for me, with a very special member of our society.
Sam Sam is quite famous in Breda. It's location on the corner of the Market square helps, but it's student atmosphere is definately attractive ... especially of course for ... students.

Centre of town: cluster of restaurants - Breda

Centre of town: cluster of restaurants

Any restaurant in town: Bourgondian lifestyle, means exquisit menu's

On average the plates in Northern Brabant and LImburg are fuller and tastier then North of the rivers. This is a heritage from the Bourgondian lifestyle that belongs here as much as in Northern France and Belgium. Restaurants can be found in the spots where also many bars and cafe's are (meaning the centre of the town) as well as in surrounding area's.

Terraces, in summer most popular by everyone - Breda

Many cafe's, bars and terraces: Student atmosphere without a university

The atmosphere in Breda is like that of a university-town. It doesn;t have that, but the many higher schools, averaging on university level add to an enormous vast group of students that somehow know how to party a little bit more then the other people. They, however, join often in the atmosphere and together "Breda" always stands for a great atmosphere on terraces, cafe's and bars in every square in town, and the "markt" in particular. Students enjoy lower prices (which - in my opinion - should be prohibited soon as it is just a way of discrimination)
