Enkhuizen ... end of the line and other Enkhuizen, Netherlands Transportation Tips

Getting TO/AROUND: Train rides are popular from Amsterdam to Enkhuizen, but from there the line is not leading any further and return to the capitol. Stop- and Intercity trains run an hourly services, which makes it possible to leave Enkhuizen every half an hour (or arrive there of course).

Tip: Enkhuizen is also part of a popular transport triangle. From Medemblik by boat to Enkhuizen, by electric train on to Hoorn from where the old touristic steamtrain again takes you to Medemblik.

Getting TO/AROUND: Enkhuizen is a historic harbourtown, so what nicer way you could enter then by (sail)boat. Many people do so, coming to Enkhuizen over the IJssel- or Marker meer (meer = lake). However, for the less fortunate, Enkhuizen has an exceptional possibility for (car_drivers to also arrive in this harbourtown from the water. A 28 kilometer long dike stretches straight through the waters of the IJssel- and Marker- lake, coming from Lelystad. Definately a recommendation for foreigners that seek the impressions of "Holland, country under the sea".

Getting TO/AROUND: Enkhuizen is a small town and therefore can best be experienced on foot. On the attached map (picture 2) you can see that the old city centre (and most interesting part) of Enkhuizen is quite compact and has still the shape the old fortified walls gave it in medieval times. Walking around Enkhuizen can be done within an afternoon or morning in which the other half of the day should be spend in the Zuiderzee museum.
