Persingen, as seen from the "Via Romana"

Idyllic spot on the map

From the provincial road that leads from nijmegen towards Kleve (also known as the Via Romana, an ancient Roman road!) one drives by the hills of "Beek" and "Ubbergen" while enjoying a wide panoramic view over the riverland polders of "Ooij". In this sea of green one will be drawn towards a lonely church that sits on top of a small hill (a "terp") and surrounded by two large farmlike buildings. This must be the smallest place on earth ...!

Small, throughout history

The old Saint Dionysus-church

In this polderland, dangerous open and low, an easy victim for the yearly rising river Waal, yet also surrounded with furtile soils that bring in good harvest, "Persingen" is a extremely small settlement with only a church and two large farms as well as a cafe-restaurant that belongs to a manege (horse riding school). Inhabitants are less then 10, but ... the village kept going throughout many centuries of history.

Ik heb als eens gezegd dat Bronkhorst het kleinste plaatsje was..en toen zei men NEE dat is Persingen..Zou best kunnen.. Leuke fotos..Een fijne zonnige week!!
