"Den Haag (The Hague), Madurodam en Scheveningen" The Hague by Pavlik_NL

Town number three in The Netherlands (that is in population). Many would call it the actual capitol of The Netherlands as here it is where already since the Middle Ages the governement is. The oldest democratic governement in the world - if I may say. The English however state that their parlement is just a little bit older and so I won't go into a discussion without an end.

Name of the town can be confusing. The Hague, one says in English, but actually it is "Den Haag", which is again a short version of "s-Gravenhage" (litteraly translated that means "hedge of the counts"). Den Haag is now-a-days also (again) the residence of the queen and that is why many of the town citizens call it simply "The Residence".

But it's not only The Hague that might intrest you. Widen your view a little bit and you will have a great time in and around this town.
Most people already will visit it anyway: Madurodam. This miniature district in The Netherlands (it has the same rights as a town or district!) shows the whole of Holland and some more. On scale many touristic highlights are built and this is THE opportunity to see a lot, without travelling around to much. Madurodam is not anymore unique (Mini-Europe you can find in Brussels), however the first of it's kind.

Going further West from Madurodam most The Hague-visitors will also walk the boulevard at Scheveningen. This is the bathingtown that is stretching along the beaches of the Northsea. Into the waves sticks the "Pier" rom where one has a nice view towards the land. Main building here is the Kurhaus, a hotel and casino. Furthermore big hotels and appartmentcomplexes are along the seaside. On the boulevard there are many terraces of bars, cafés and restaurants. The seafood is here delicious. Scheveningen-harbour is very pictoresk and the town is always booming with a wonderful nightlife. Famous is the North-Sea-jazz-festival that bring the best of the best in jazzmusic to Scheveningen. urthermore the firework-championships and dragonfly-contests in summertime lure many visitors to our bathingtown.
