Pearl in (and out) the English Crown | Hong Kong at night from Victoria Peak |
Wow, what a city. Full of lights and busy, busy, busy. After Tokyo, I thought it would be calmer, but I was wrong as Chinese are much more noisy then the Japanese (we just came from Tokyo). For people that favor Chinese (Kantonese) kitchen Kowloon is truely a paradise and shoppers among us can buy their wallets empty on bargains. Be sure to go to Victoriapeak on Hong Kong island in the evening to enjoy the view over the bay and the millions of magical lights. It's a pitty that adventurous landings on Kay-Tak airport belong to the past as you nowhere in the world could follow peoples activities in their skyscratchers appartements from your airplane! HongKong actually is only the island in the same named bay. On mainland China the districts of Kowloon and New Territories stretch out towards the Chinese border, that now seized to excist more or less. The contrast between the relatively empty and natural Territories and the skyscratchers on Hong Kong island is amazing. As well the light-intensity, especially Kowloon baths in colourful neonlights, when streets are filled with people on their way to dinner, a nightclub or their beds (if Hong Kong people ever sleep). |
