"Duffel, small place with some great monuments" Duffel by Pavlik_NL

The old town "Duffla", a mixture of latin words "dubro" and "lo(cus)", actually means place near water. It was first mentioned in 1059 and it's history is one with many ups and downs. The town is small and pressed between huge Antwerpen and Brussels as well as smaller Lier and Mechelen. Through it's centre the "Antwerpse waterwerken", a combination of some canalised rivers that have been created in such way that the form a safety system against floading for the Antwerp harbour terrains as river Schelde kays.
"Duffel" is not a well known place, but strangly enough a product baring the name of this village has spread all over the world. The "Duffelcoat" was made here on many weaving machines around the year 1500. "Duffel" itself then was known to be a pleasant and wealthy and especially clean place to many foreigners.
Now-a-days the small town is still clean and before evrything else green. Surrounded with agricultural grounds and forests along the Antwerp waterworks, Duffel is truely a small paradise for hikers and bikers. The dikes alongside the river Nete invite people to come and walk (or bike) as well as the parks that the place has created in it's midst. And yet, we should not forget about the few very special monuments that Duffel has to offer.

Lovely page. I come here regularly to visit family but never took the time to see the monuments. It's about time to do so.
