Getting TO/AROUND: You can easily get to Vienna through Wien Schwechat International Airport. The airport is located near the village Schwechat and well connected to the Passenger terminal of Vienna. Austrian Airlines has this airport as main base and connects towards many European capitol as well as larger towns and places outside Europe.

Getting TO/AROUND: This English saying "look what the cat dragged in" gets a whole new meaning in Vienna. The CAT is the City-Airport-Train of Vienna and a comfortable connection between Schwechat Wien International Airport and the Passenger terminal in the centre of Vienna. So, be careful in using this phrase, as it probably will be "you" as a tourist that the CAT dragged into Vienna!

Bus,tram&Metro: Getting everywhere by "U-bahn" (Metro)

Getting TO/AROUND: Vienna has an excellent "U-bahn"-system that connects all corners of the Austrian capitol with the centre. It is a clean and comfortable way of travelling, though one will not see a lot of the town as it is mainly underground (like any metro). The tramway system offers a wonderful opportunity to travel above ground and see a lot of Vienna while moving from one to another place. Tip: Tramway 1 and 2 are also interesting to enjoy the circular Ringstrasse along which many monuments and highlights of Vienna will be passed.

Getting TO/AROUND: The centre of Wien offers around 70% of the most spectacular sights that Vienna has to offer it's visitors. To truely enjoy the Austrian capitol one should definately go on foot and take the time to enjoy the fine details of this magnificent historical metropolis. This intensive walking does not mean running along all the important monuments, but good shoes are recommended as Vienna has so much to offer that you will not notice the many kilometres that you'll walk, gazing at all the beauty. Excellent resting places are the many parks and of course the famous coffeehouses. highly recommended are the guided tours of Gertrude Frantal, of whome I have placed the website here.

Fiaker: The only place where they belong!

Getting TO/AROUND: The only true place where the famous Fiakers belong is Vienna. Traditionally this was a means of city transport in the 18th and 19th century. Okay, it was exclusively for the richre classes, but even now the are definately not cheap. However, seeing the town from these open horse pulled carriages is magnificent and truely belongs to this town (though many other touristic places now-a-days sadly copy this tradition). Fiakers can be found around the Sankt Stephansdom, the Hofburg and in some other places within the city centre.

Vasili Sat May 23, 2009 08:12 UTC A beautiful tradition and sight and especially the "klap klap" of the horses on the pavement but they need to work on scoopping the poop trail left behind on the small streets. | volopolo Tue Apr 1, 2008 19:40 UTC Excellent page about Vienna, the most beautiful city in Europe! | Daja123 Sun Jan 14, 2007 19:08 UTC The crystal hall in Albertina's palace is amazing.
