Bay d'Ecalgrain, most beautiful beach I ever seen

Sand, water, sunshine and ...

Auderville is a small town on Cap La Hague, Cotentin peninsula, Normandie. The village itself is simple and has - like almost all Normandian villages - wonderful kept gardens and a cosy rural atmosphere. However, the bay close to Auderville is of exceptional beauty (even though swimming is not recommended her, as for the dangerous currents around Cap La Hague - see my Jobourg page). The beach is made of fine sand and the bay is flanked by magnificent cliffs rising up from the sea. Bay d'Ecalgrain is indeed the most beautiful (small) bay I have ever seen.
Natural hot tubs of Bay d'Ecalgrain

Natural hot tubs!

Very special here are the natural hot tubs. At least, that is what I call them. The rocks at some parts of the gerenaly sandy beach in the bay, have created pools in and around them. At high tide, the beach is floaded and seawater is left behind, when the sea retreates again. This water swiftly heats up when the sun shines on it, leaving natural hot tubs. For those that do not like the chilly seawater (whimps, the sea is refreshing here - haha), these hot tubs are a great experience.

Playing around on the beach

One day during our two weeks Normandian holiday, we drove along the Western rough coastline of Cotentin peninsula and this bay and beach was definately the best place that day. Above all as it came unexpected (everyone is always talking about Cap La Hague and Le Nez de Jobourg). If we would have known, we would have spend a whole day here and took swim suits as well as sand playing tools for Ilja. Luckely, he had as much fun just digging with his hands and jumping over the roling waves.
Ilja - like me - loves the sea and the beach
