"Views from high up the lighthouse " a Gatteville-le-Phare Travel Page by Pavlik_NL

Gatteville itself is a small Normandian village at the North-Eastern tip of the Cotentin peninsula, which would never have been so well known if here a lighthouse was not built. Not just a lighthouse, but the second highest on in Europe with almost 75 meters height. The lighthouse is open to public and from it's top you can enjoy a amazing view along the coastline towards Saint-Vaast-la-Hogue on one side and towards Cherbourg on the other.

Ilja was already crazy about lighhouses, but after our visit to the Gatteville lighthouse, he was talking about it many weeks after. His ultimate souvenir even became: a miniature lighthouse. Besides being absolutely interested in the purpose of the lighthouses in general, he liked them for their technique (the huge lights that swings around and around). Ilja is crazy about anything that has to do with technique.

Our time at Gatteville-le-Phare was very nice. First we climbed up to the top for a breathtaking view. Double breathtaking, as after the many stairs, we barely had any breath left. After descending again we spend a lovely hour on the rocks surrounding the lighthouse. Ilja jumping from one rock to another and throwing stones into the water. Irina by sunbathing on the warm stones and inhaling the fresh sea air.
