Ancient Roman victorious monument ...

This little underappreciated place by the masses of tourists that visit the Cote-d'Azur is still worth mentioning seperately on my pages. It hides, well, actually you can't call it hiding, the largest remaining roman ruin outside Italy, called the "Trophee des Alpes". It was erected by roman emperor Augustus after his victory over the various rebellious tribes in and around the Alpes.

... looking down on modern buildings

La Turbie itself is a quite French village, only disturbed by some tourists that take the effort not to see the Trophee des Alpes only from the motorway, rushing by. From the high point the monument is standing one looks down on the outskirts of Monte Carlo, where a different construction energy is raging around.
