Violent guns, imidst peaceful cornfields

Longues-sur-Mer is a rural village in which neighborhood the Nazi's had built a powerful battery as stronghold within their Atlantic Wall. Four 150 mm guns were sheltered here, spreading lethal fire around for over 20 km onto The Channel's waters. Now-a-days the guns are a example of the strength the Atlantic Wall had and the power that the liberators were up against.

Power overpowered by desinformation

Longues-sur-Mer was situated between the landing beaches of Gold and Omaha, threatening any invasion on these places. A fierce artillery battle of almost three days finally silenced the guns. More can be read about it in my "Must see activities" tips.
