Paris, trop beau pour une vie

by Pavlik_NL - last update: Jan 2, 2003

Alway new things to discover (even if u live here)

La Defense, a whole different Paris
Paris, capitol of France and what can I tell that you do not already know. You cannot see this lively city in a day, a weekend or a week. I don't understand people that visit Disneyland, when they haven't yet been to Paris as it is an attractionparc on it's own (without the enormous queues in front of every ride). Paris can leave you amazed every time and just walking around is already a joy (unless it rains, as you are in France and there the weather should be fine - haha). Going for the first time to Paris, take a package-tour and stay in the group. It is - especially if you still only go for a few days, the best way to see the French capitol.
Little bit of the beaten track is the new townpart La Defense. The New Arch is the central building in this hypermodern part of Paris. In a straigth line from here you can see Les Champs Elyssees, l'Arc de Triomph, Place de la Concorde (with the Obelisk), Les Tuillerie (former royal gardens) and the Piramide in front of the Louvre.
Oh, don't be annoyed that the French will not speak any descent language, they don't know better (theirs sounds wonderful, but still). Only if you realy keep on telling that you don't know the language, they might consider to talk to you in English (never will they speak German).
Furthermore, DO NOT GO ON THE EIFFELTOWER. For the best views over the city you have to go to Tour Montparnasse. Why? Well, if you are looking from the Eiffeltower, you will definately miss the main building of the city in your view as you are standing on top of it! Tour Montparnasse is the highest skyscratcher of Paris and has a viewingplatform on top. Especially in the evening and night the view is breathtaking.
