HB say licenceplates of the cars that drive around in Bremen. "Hanzestadt Bremen" it means and one can truely be proud of this title. In the middle ages this trading treaty between towns from as far as the Rhine near Arnhem towards Novgorod in Russia, made and breaked towns. If you joined, success in trade was almost guaranteed and so growth would start. The economical power that this treaty had can be seen in Bremen (as well as Hamburg, the other large "Hanzestad").
Now-a-days Bremen is a beautiful North German town that has a lot to offer. Green, peaceful parks and a lively centre with great monuments (especially around the Marktplatz = Marketsquare in the Altstadt = Old Town). One should also taste the cosy atmosphere in the narrow alleys near the old harbor: "Schnoor". |
