Cuxhaven is a harbourtown there where the river Elbe mouths into the North sea. From here the shipping going from and to Hamburg harbour and in the wide "German Bay" of the North sea is guided. It as well is a town with beaches, dunes, a part of the "Watten-mehr" ("Wadden"sea) and a place where the oldest sea-signal stands of Germany. The somewhat strangly shaped "Kugel-baken" marks already for centuries that here the ships should go, if the wanted to enter the Hamburg harbour and the Elbe-river. Above all, Cuxhaven is the harbour and center of everything that is going on in the most Northern part of Niedersachsen. |
