When you need to split, head to Split

Not just your average banana any longer

As of April 2002, and I am sure a lot has changed since then, Split was a quaint harbor town in the heart of the Dalmatian Coast. Getting there can be a little hassle as opposed to the EU countries, but i felt was well worth it, especially if you want to relax. There's no reason to go to Croatia without going to the coast. I am sure their is a little more to do in the heart of summer, than in April mid-week, but i was still captivated by the beautiful Mediterranean scenery, and the landscape isn’t that bad either.

if found it interesting that on days of 70 degs + (Feh), the locals dressed in wool jackets and pants.

Watching the Water

A good portion of the days were spent sitting in cafes along the Adriatic Sea, people watching, as the afternoon showers passed on thru. From the harbor, there are ferries that can take you to different islands or other coastal cities, even just for the day. Or if you are the adventurer type, you can find out more about the white water rafting. (It was not in my budget - I didn't even bother looking) Although the pictures I saw made me want to go
Diocletian Palace Tower

Diocletian's Palace

Around 300 AD, Diocletian, a Roman Emperior, built a palace that was later to become his retirement home. Now the ruins are filled with cafe's and shops (80% for shoes, handbags, sunglasses). Around the side is also the site of the daily market where you can buy your vegies and a t-shirt.

even when nightlife was scarce, a few of us managed to hear about the "Getto Bar" (yes, spelled that way) it was located back in the deep labrynths of the Palace. The only way i think you can find it, is if you as a local kid hanging out to take you there. if the door is closed, just knock, you might be surprised on what's inside. (but don't show up after 11pm on off nights)
