Sorry for such a crappy picture. My last time down in this neck of the woods was about 15 years ago. I have always had a strange connection with this area. Some of my family actually called the Grand Canyon, "nothing but a big pothole.” Well, you can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends’ nose or your family. (Disclaimer: they were very distant relatives) for me, I still remember getting out of the car, and walking up to the overlook for the first time, and I almost beginning to cry. Not too sure why, it was just a little overwhelming at the time I guess. I don't have much current info, but maybe this might motivate you to find out more and go spend some time here. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Canyon De Chelly

Again bad photo and scan. If you look closely, you will see the ancient ruins from the Anaszai below the smooth sweeping façade. This was a common subject in many Ansel Adams photos. No one knows for sure what ever happened to the Anaszai that once lived with this land dating back to 350AD, some think they became the Zuni Nation (if I remember correctly) but now it “belongs” to Navajo Nation. (Which is an oxymoron because they never believed in owning land…) But anyhow, you can look down or walk down this canyon and see life the way it was. When I was there last, there were still people keeping very traditional ways of life here.

Window Rock

This is the "Capital" of the Navajo Nation. I really don’t remember too much what is around here, I was young, but this place I still remember well.
