Where do I begin? Where do I begin? Barcelona became one of my all time favorite places on earth (so far). When I was traveling Europe, Spain was not even on my “to do” list. But after certain events and a flip of the coin, I ended up in Barcelona. In fact, I enjoyed myself so much; I went back for round two. I found it to be one of the more multi cultural cities in Europe from my travels, Amsterdam & Geneva were the others. This does not mean that there are not more, but this is only my experience. Knowing very little about Antonio Gaudi before the visit, I absolutely fell in love with this eccentric architect/artist work. I described it to friends as Frank Lloyd Wright on hallucinogens, providing function with a distorted view on form. Truly amazing and mind blowing work. Barcelona has many more offerings besides Gaudi. With its famous nightlife, great restaurants and beachside community, you could say -I felt right at home |

Why be normal? Antonio Gaudi 1856-1927 As if there isn't enough mention of this man on everyone else’s VT pages that have traveled to Barcelona. But I couldn’t help to be less than blown away by his work. Everything you see, he sketched by hand. His last (uncompleted) work was the Sagrada Familia. And the only reason he didn’t finish it, was his death at age 76 – hit by a streetcar. I will write about the different Gaudi works in the “must see” part and with a limited photo essay in the “travelogue” section. Each of his places I visited, gave me goose bumps. Enjoy. |
Out till the sun smiles on your face Where did the night go? It was not uncommon for me (and what seemed to be everyone else) to be out till the sun was peeking up behind the horizon. Upon my second pass thru Barcelona, the watering holes I patronized I just happened to walk by, and I did not have a pen or paper or camera with me to remember it for the next day. I will explain what I can. On my first pass thru I saw Barcelona during the day, the second time, I saw it during at night. It is not hard finding places to go, or people to go there with - at any time. |
