Nightlife Spot: no longer 'the' place to be in Sydney...
For the seriously chic of Sydney. Beautiful (& yes, expensive) food & drinks. A little later on the restaurant disappears and people are dancing. Sunday nights are the best, with Sneaky Sounds playing there every Sunday. UPDATE 15Jun04: Friday/Saturday nights are now the night to go. Sunday nights have faded a bit. There is usually a $15 cover-charge, I am not sure that its worth it. I think this place is no longer the unique place it used to be...

Nightlife Spot: Chicane
Dark and delicious space that's cornered the coolest name in cocktail-dom although you pay for the privilege. Avoid the forty-dollar margaritas and go for martinis and negronis in a bar done up in Rothko-esque paints and Fink! jugs. The urbane ambience even extends to the bathrooms. Waiters can be a bit up themselves in the bar but it's all soft-spoken splendour in the restaurant where the food is fancy and fishy. Personally, i wouldn't bother going any other night than a Sunday night. If its not Sunday, it can be a bit slow in there with not enough people for the usual Sunday vibrant atmosphere. Sunday nights here are the best and the biggest. Get there before 10.30 to avoid the possibility of being turned away. The crowd are good-looking, good-fun, good-stylin' people. Prepare to dance on a Sunday!

Nightlife Spot: BEACH ROAD HOTEL
MY FAVOURITE! Wednesday nights & Sunday afternoons/evenings are the best times here. Understand that in Sydney its not always the place you go to, its the night you go on (and the time). Make sure you go UPSTAIRS to this place. Downstairs is just a typical beer pub kind of place (might be nice though, if you want a real Aussie pub atmosphere, all the guys watching the Rugby...) Upstairs they have two bar areas. The main one has lounges and dance area. The DJs always rock the place on Wed & Sun nights. They often have live music, bongos... jungle, electronic, funk kinda musik. Good young people, funky style with a bit of the beach culture influence. Have fun, I did!

Nightlife Spot: Tilbury Hotel
The Tilbury Hotel down at Woolloomoolooooooooooo (crazy name for a suburb I know!) is a great upscale pub, also hosting a superb fine dining restaurant with modern Italian cuisine. Good option for business lunch or dinners. Friday & Saturday nights in Summer are definitely a favourite of mine. Large balcony outside & great people-watching. Fun atmosphere, friendly crowd without being either pretentious or rough... somewhere in between!
