I had spent a lot of time in Germany at this point and was excited to spend some time in another country, particularly France. However, I was surprised to discover that Strasbourg, although now apart of France, really is quite German. Historically, Strasbourg was owned by Germany (a couple of times) and also France has owned it, and they now own it. So when one looks at street signs it may say Rue de la Saint and then Saint Strasse. It really is a city with both French & German cultures strongly embedded in its identity. All locals speak both languages, menus are in both French & German. What a pretty city!
Kirchwein Strasse... a beautiful drive through the hills, vineyards, little villages... its so scenic, even when its not sunny! (as evident in my picture here...)
