Tourist Trap: The main tourist trap I found...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The main tourist trap I found was the exhorbitant price for most items. It was french atmosphere at more costly than French prices. Watch what you buy, and ignore brochures that say 'jade can be purchased reasonably'.

Alternative: Go prepared that you might not find many bargains...and take extra cash with you!

    Tourist Trap: The Zoo
  • Tip Rating:
  • The problem with the Zoo was, that nothing in the guide books indicated that many attractions closed for anything up to 2 hours 'siesta' over lunch time.

We had to catch one of the rickety old buses some distance out of town, which left us at the foot of a large hill. It was hot and we were tired when we finally reached the top...only to find the zoo closed for siesta!
We weren't going to wait 2 hours for it to open again, so I took one photo of the gates, and we left.

Alternative: Just assume most attractions will close for lunch, and shops too (then you won't be so disappointed as we were).
See attractions in the early morning or after 2.30 in the afternoon, to be on the safe side.
