The island of New Caledonia (French name Nouvelle Caledonie) is situated in Melanesia, between Queensland in the West, and Fiji in the east. It covers an area of 18,575 square kms and is just below the Tropic of Capricorn.

The principal languages spoken here are French, Melanesian and Polynesian dialects.
The population is approximately 207,800 people.

Pros:A wonderful tropical Island with French and Polynesian flavour
Cons:Extremely humid weather - avoid Xmas time?
