    Orakei Korako: Orakei Korako II
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Rising steam, bubbling water or mud, almost wherever you look. That's what it's like at many of the great Thermal attractions in and around Rotorua.

    Te Puia: Whakawerawera Geyser
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • One of the best parts in the Whakawerawera Thermal Park is the huge geyser jet of water and steam that goes off, each hour almost on the hour (aided, I've heard, by adding some washing powder into the crevasse to froth things up a bit more!)

    Lake Rotorua: Lake Rotorua Cruise
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • A 1 hour cruise on Lake Rotorua is a nice, relaxing and non-strenuous thing to do (and when I got out of the hospital, that's what I did).

  • Rotorua Buried Village
  • Buried medicine man's hut in
  • village
  • by Kate-Me
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Rotorua's Buried Village is a fascinating and informative place...you can learn about the volcanic eruption which once buried this village, and wander around the excavations of huts that are still partly visible.
One of the best things we visited.

    Rotorua Museum: Rotorua Museum/Rotorua Bathouse
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This building is the original Rotorua Bathouse, which in the early 1900's was a very special place for therapeutic spas, using the power of the geothermal, of course. Also the famous mud of Rotorua was also used in the therapies.

Now the Bathouse is a museum, and you can see how it used to be, plus some rooms of art and other exhibits.
Well worth a visit, and the outside of the building is especially pleasing to the eye.

    Blue Baths: The Blue Baths
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • In their heyday, the 1940's, the Blue Baths in Rotorua were a real institution...not just leisure, but the place to be seen.

You can still swim here, but one pool is long since closed, and its space turned into a fancy restaurant/afternoon tea place, and the changing rooms are part museum, part audio visual room, focussing a lot on those early years.

The building combines both elements of Spanish Mission and Art Deco (which are in some ways related to each other).

I symnpathise with you, got food poisoning in Vancouver, and had to be taken off the aircraft prior to take-off. Hospitalised, and embarassed, I did send the food back, but one bite was enough.
