Lakeside Thermal Park 1: Lakeside Thermal II

Unique Qualities: One of the reasons we chose to stay at Lakeside (besides the views) was that they had free canoe hire, which we took advantage of. I really enjoyed being able to stand on the little jetty at night and look back across the lake towards Rotorua township.

Lakeside Thermal Park 1: Cabin, Motorhome & Camping Park

This was the place we stayed in 1999 when last in Rotorua.

Unique Qualities: The prices were very reasonable, the owners friendly, and the Park is right on the shores of Lake Rotorua, so has great views from some of the cabins.

Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: Lake Rotorua foreshore, about 3 kms from the centre of town.

Price: less than US$20

Unique Qualities: The pool in the courtyard right outside our room's glass sliding doors looked very inviting...but unfortunately it was way too cold to try it out.

There is a natural thermal room though, where you can have a spa (just make sure you're not wearing any gold or silver jewellery, or the minerals will turn the metal black).

Four Canoes Motel: Great Maori ambience
