"Buninyong, another historic goldfields town" Buninyong by Kate-Me

Buninyong Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 33 photos

Buninyong is another of Victoria's historic goldfields towns, located approximately 11 kms from Ballarat.
The town also pre-dates Ballarat by some years, as it was established for grazing and sheep farming several years before the first 1851 gold strikes took place.

It is quite a small town, wiith a pub and a few shops and restaurants, but has a few things to offer the tourist, such as nearby Mt Buninyong with its steel climbable fire tower and volcanic crater walks where one can sometimes see Koalas, and nearby Ballarat Bird World (just a few kms away towards Ballarat at Mt Helen)

view from Buninyong tower on a clear sunny day.

Koala we came across on Mt Buninyong on January 6, 2006.
