Launceston

Launceston is Tasmania's second oldest and second largest city, situated on the Tamar river, to the North East, about 1 hour from Devonport.

It is a pretty place, with much of the city shops in a kind of basin depression and the housing areas on elevated hills surrounding it.

The shopping is quite good, and there are many attractions in and around the area.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Quite a nice fairly compact city
  • Cons:It's always a bit colder than the rest of Australia
  • In a nutshell:A nice place for a holiday with nice old world charm

just for interests sake, Grindelwald was set up by a Dutchman, who had flown over Grindelwald in Switzerland and wanted to recreate it in Tassie. He owned the supermarket chains in Tas, which were taken over by Woolworths in the 1990's.
