It was about 1994 when I was last in Perth, a brief 3 day visit just to the city and Fremantle, which I really enjoyed and since then I've always wanted to go back...sometime...and this year was the time to came back, helped along by very reasonable flights with VirginBlue :-)
Here is a photo of a replica ship of "The Bounty" which was docked in Fremantle during the last trip so long ago now.
Perth city impressed me back then, and this time it was even more so. It's just as clean and spacious as it ever was, with the addition of being a bit more trendy now and way more restaurants and cafes than ever before, something I thought they were lacking a bit in last time...but no more.
I still only had just under 2 days of our 5 day trip of the South West to spend here, which I discovered again really wasn't enough... so I think I'll be definitely back again some day.
This time we mainly just had time to admire the Swan river from the boat cruise harbour, the Bell Tower nearby in Barracks Square, the Mall (who could miss London Court again) and exploring the centre of the city, and a brief stop in Fremantle at the end. |
| | Swan River One of the great, relaxing things we did on the first trip to Perth was take a leisurely cruise on the Swan River. The cruise took us past some magnificent houses, some worth millions of dollars and owned by Australian celebrities. The best part of the cruise was when some dolphins appeared and decided to tag along behind us. |
| | Perth really has two major faces...its nice stone architecture which looks at times older than it is, with plenty of character - Perth being one of our newer cities - and the glassy modern one shown here. |

| Pros: | "Easy to get around, lots to see." | | Cons: | "A long way from any other Australian city." | | In A Nutshell: | "Great weather, great scenery - well worth a visit" |

TheWanderingCamel Thu May 25, 2006 09:29 UTC No dolphins at AQWA these days- and no plans to have them there again - but it's still a great place to visit. You'll have to head west again one day. leyle | MalenaN Sun Nov 9, 2003 08:03 UTC Nice tips Kathryn! To see the carpet of wildflowers in spring sounds beautiful. |
