"St Helen's to Freycinet pages" Saint Helens by Kate-Me

Saint Helens Travel Guide: 38 reviews and 81 photos

The East Coast

The East coast of Tassie (especially between Bay of Fires and Freycinet Peninsula) is really spectacular with white sandy beaches, azure blue green sea, interesting shore rocks covered in bright orange algae.

It's also a beautiful coastline to drive along.

I start this chapter with St Helen's, which is the game fishing capital of Tasmania.
The town is of a reasonable size compared to most of the other tiny towns in the region. It is well equipped with stores, eateries and several out of the ordinary interesting shops.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful coastline
  • Cons:The sun wasn't shining enough for our photos
  • In a nutshell:The best coastal scenery in Tasmania.

Conde Nast rated the Bay of Fires in the world's top beaches a few years back, today I read that the Lonely Planet is ranking it the #1 destination in the World for 2009!! Yet nobody has been to this enjoyable page since 2004..

All tourist brochures and maps say that the way from Launceston to St Helens is via Scottsdale - However, the best way is actually via the Fingal Valley, you'll save about an hour more

To bad that the sun wasn't shining that day, but the photos still look great. I still remember my bush camps in Oz without facilities, a good ditch can do wonders, hahaha Good page of a place I hope to visit one day.
