The Scottish- flavoured village of Sutton Forest

by Kate-Me - last update: Jun 22, 2005

Sutton Village is near the Illawarra region, about 2 hours south of Sydney, not far from the coast.
It's just a tiny place, not more than a few hundred people (if that) - just a few shops, B & Bs and residential.... with one main-stand out attraction:
an irish shop. Not just any Scottish/Irish themed souvenir shop, but a really good one, which has been operating right there on the highway for 18 years now.

The town was settled by Scottish and Irish settlers, and the town seems influenced by that because of this shop.
They have some Irish events and an Irish festival each year, held at or near the Scottish shop. The name of the district "Southern Highlands" also sounds Celtic.

Cons:"a little out of the way"
In A Nutshell:"Brilliant Irish shop, gives great extra character to the little town"

Yeah, the shop is great! But there really is no Irish/Scottish connection to the place. The woman who runs the shop, her husband runs the Old English Fayre every month across in the hall. It's just entrepeneurial.
