You don't even have to try too hard to find Koalas at Tower Hill - it would have to be one of the most thriving colonies of them in Victoria (besides French Island).
This fellow we found, half asleep in a rather thin tree, was only about 2.2 metres off the ground, and unconcerned about us. He was just sleeping in the sun, his tree quite close to the carpark.
If you want to see several Koalas, one after the other, I recommend the Lava Tongue Boardwalk as the best one to go for.
The boardwalk section of it itself isn't that great now there's almost no water in the crater left and birds are too far away to see, but at the start and end of the walk you'll pass through a lot of good eucalypt forest reserve.

Don't miss the emus (though usually they are quite easy to spot, roaming around in the car park area or feeding on the grass near the Visitor Information Centre).
Remember not to feed them: being chased by an emu 1.5 mts tall who wants more food wouldn't be fun!
