"Tower Hill" Tower Hill by Kate-Me

Tower Hill is situated between the towns of Warrnambool and Port Fairy, on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria's south West.
It is a State Nature Reserve which is located inside an extinct volcanic crater.
Not long after early settlement in the mid 1800's, this land was cleared and stripped, and it has only been in recent decades that a lot of conservation work has been undertaken to regenerate the bushland with original species of trees which were once found here, and re-introducing animals such as squirrel gliders, koalas and emus, which has been quite successful, particularly the koalas, as on one trip there we saw 13 of them, some with young, during one short walk of less than 30 minutes from the car park.

Emu chicks - a site I've never seen in the wild in my life, so we were rather happy to see these newly hatched ones at Tower Hill in September 2005.

• Pros:Birdlife galore, emus, koalas and other wildlife to be seen at close range in the wild
• Cons:Too many walks to choose from! Need a lot of time to see it all
