18 April 1949, a few short years after World War II and Poland was still reeling from the devastation of the country. Yet another tragic chapter had been added to an already tragic history. More than 25% of the population had died during WWII, and the country was still in ruins. Poznan (formerly Pozen) had been returned to Poland as the western border was shifted back to the River Oder. This was the place of my birth. |
