Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: Once in a lifetime...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bangkok Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew
  • Along the Chao Phraya River!

  • Sprinkled around Bangkok are numerous Buddhist Temples, their influence, but not their beauty, slowly waning, but still an important part of most Thais lives. Particularly beautiful is Wat Pra Kao by the Grand Palace and near Sanam Luang.(a large park in Banglamphoo) Another, among many worth visiting, is Wat benjamin bopit (The marble Temple) on Sri Ayuttayah road. One of the largest markets in Asia, Jatujak, also known as the weekend market, or J.J., lies next to the Mor Chit sky train terminal in Northern Bangkok, and boasts a massive 10,000 stalls and shops. There are also no shortage of cinemas, nightclubs and department stores to cater to Bangkok's young population. To help you get around, maps of Bangkok, with bus routes included are available at most bookshops in the city. Outside the city, but near enough to get to in a day, is Koh (island) Samet, your archetypal paradise island featuring swaying palms, white sands etc. A bit further away, but still only a days journey, Koh Chang offers more of the same but in a less developed setting. Kanchanaburi, leafy, tranquil and home to the famous bridge over the river Kwai, is just two hours away and very feasible for weekend breaks. In addition, most of the bigger hotels offer tours to the floating market where vendors ply their trade from small boats in an idyllic river setting. Many of the same hotels also offer river trips to Ayuttahya where visitors can see remnants of the ancient capital.

  • Wat Arun according to what I read was founded in the Ayutthaya period. It was named as Temple of Dawn since King Taksin the Great decided to shift the Capital of Thailand to Thonburi and at the end of the procession, he arrived at Wat Arun at early dawn. This is one of the most-famous landmarks of Thailand.

Night Flower Market: Night Flower Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • Before going to the Night Flower Market you can tell the driver to stop for a while in the Erawan Shrine, where most of the people have travelled from far away places to just pray and have a little offering. Afterwards, we went to the Lovely night flower market though you can encounter different kinds of people. The place is filled with vegetables, vast amount of orchids and other flowers. Head to the Pat Phong Night Market, the place is certainly filled of many souveneirs from clothing to different kind of street foods!

Floating Market: Rose Garden and the Damneon Saduak
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bangkok Floating Market
  • Floating Market, Damneon Saduak
  • by yen_2
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • We had a seat in coach tour for a whole day outside Bangkok more or less 50 miles to see the well known Floating Market in the Damnern-saduak. Before we got there we stopped at the Thailands largest Pagoda at Nakorn Pathom.

When we get there, we had a fabulous lunch which I did not expect since it's a tour which we hired at the rush hour! Again lunch at the Rose Garden Country Resort. We saw Thai cultural show at their small village along the Resort. WE also had a chance to see the Thai Sword fighting and the Elephant at their best, it was charming to see at my very own eyes those big animals! We we're lucky enough to see a Thai wedding Ceremony. We paid only 1,200 baht / person which is very reasonable.

More details at my Floating Market Page...

    Wat Pho: Wat Po
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wat Po, known to the Thais as Wat Phra Chetupon, dates from long before Bangkok was founded, as it was built in the 16th century. It became a favourite with the early Chakri kings who turned it into the country's largest monastery. Wat Po's major attraction is the massive Reclining Buddha, 46 meters long, whose feet are decorated with exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay.
