The Kancamagus Highway (NH Route 112) meanders through the White Mountain National Forest between Interstate Rt 93 and NH Rt 16. Along the way there are several National Forest campgrounds. My favorites are Jigger Johnson and Covered Bridge campgrounds, but nearly all offer great family camping. . Keep in mind the conditions are VERY rustic. Most campgrounds do not have hot showers or flushing toilets, however, Jigger Johnson does have these amenities. Without showers, most folks bathe in the nearby Swift River using biodegradable soap, but even in summer, the water is mighty chilly! Even so, the scenery and available outdoor activities make it all worthwhile. .
Unique Qualities: See the website below for a complete listing of campgrounds and their amenities. Most campgrounds cost about $16 per night. .

Agraichen Sat Feb 10, 2007 06:31 UTC I still mourn the loss of "the old Man"...and my time in Bristol. I'll have to make a trip back some day. Did you ever ski Tenney? | Lafinwithu1953 Sat Aug 26, 2006 12:15 UTC I lived in NH until 3 years ago. The weather there isn't bad, like it was when I was a kid with winter temps below zero most of the time & LOTS of snow. I was very LUCKY to be there! Now I am 3 hrs. to beach & 4 hrs. to Mts. & it's humid as hell in NC! | Helga67 Fri Jul 7, 2006 12:56 UTC Excellent tips. I can't wait to go there in Autumn. | pheasanttail Sat Jan 28, 2006 15:17 UTC great NH page. Being a Massachusetts native Nh is my get away state. My home page has alot of Nh on it.
