Amherstburg ( population 26,000) is a town near the mouth of the Detroit River in Essex County, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately 25km south of Detroit.
The town, across the river from the United States, was permanently established as a British military fort in 1796. During the days of the Underground Railroad, the town was often the point at which freed slaves entered Canada.
After crazy Moscow life this town looks like a holiday home...
Amherstburg is home to several tourist attractions, including Fort Malden and the North American Black Historical Museum.

I enjoyed reading these pages. This town has lots that I love. Good fishing, lovely gardens and homes, and I would love to be there to see the Roots to Boots festival!
Nice tips on your former home town. That's a great story (whether or not it is true) about those folks dismantling their house, towing it down the river by canoe and reassembling it in Amherstburg.
Wow quite a bit to do in a town I never heard of! Thanks!
There seems to be a lot of history in this area, and a very British slant since they ruled to kingdom for so long there. Great job of presenting the information.
Hi Kris, great fishing tips!!
Thank you for the beautiful card. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year!
