This gorgeous stone arch designed as an entrance to Buckingham Palace Commissioned by George IV, this splendid London landmark was originally designed in 1825 by the architect Burton, as a grand outer entrance to Buckingham Palace. Later, in 1882, the arch was moved to its present place. A statue of the Duke of Wellington on horseback was the first work of art to crown it, but its was too massive and was soon replaced by the present sculpture - the angel of peace descending on the chariot of war. The arch is currently home to a fascinating display - Lived in London: Celebration of Blue Plaques. This exhibition represent the history of Blue Plaques from 1866 to the present day. Adult :£3.00 Children:£1.50 Concession:£2.30 (11)

Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837. Actually it evolved from a town house that was owned from the beginning of the eighteenth century by the Dukes of Buckingham. Nowdays it is The Queen's official residence. Although in use for the many official events and receptions held by The Queen, areas of Buckingham Palace are opened to visitors on a regular basis (taking pictures inside the Palace is not allowed). The State Rooms of the Palace are open to visitors during the Annual Summer Opening in August and September. They are impeccably furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection. You could see there paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Poussin, Canaletto etc.; works of art by well-known sculptors; great selection of Sèvres porcelain, and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world. Visits to Buckingham Palace can be combined with visits to The Queen's Gallery, which reopened in May 2002. The nearby Royal Mews also is open all-the-year-round. Adult 13.45 BP (11)

an art gallery in London, located on the north side of Trafalgar Square. It houses Western European paintings from 1250 to 1900 from the national art collection of Great Britain. The collection of 2,300 paintings belongs to the British public, and entry to the main collection is free, though there are charges for entry to special exhibitions. Despite having being founded without an existing royal collection on which to build, and in a building with severe constraints on size, the National Gallery has grown to be a collection of international renown. It was shaped mainly by its early directors, including Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, and by private donations, which comprise two thirds of the collection. The resulting collection is small in size, but with a wide scope and paintings of exceptionally high quality. All of the major developments in the mainstream of Western painting are represented, often by masterpieces. The building, begun by William Wilkins, has undergone several extensions, most notably by E. M. Barry and Robert Venturi. The current director is Charles Saumarez Smith.

The Whispering Gallery runs around the interior of the Dome and is 259 steps up from ground-level. It gets its name from a charming quirk in its construction, which makes a whisper against its walls audible on the opposite side. Designed by Christopher Wren, and completed in 1711, to replace previous building destroyed in the great fire of 1666. Climb the dome, - the stairs take you through the whispering gallery, and on up to the lantern for a fine view. entrance ticket - 8 BP

I am sorry of not good picture - it doesn't allow to take pictures inside... Since the crowning of William the Conqueror in 1066 the Abbey has been the nation's "Coronation church". It is also burial and memorial plase of numerous fomous figures from the last one thousant years Westminster Abbey is the crowning and burial place of British monarchs. It has its world famed Poet’s Corner with memorials to Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, the Bronte’s sisters, Tennyson, Longfellow, Wordsworth, Burns, Dickens, Thackeray, Hardy, Kipling and other leading writers. Only a few however, are actually buried there. Here too is that touching symbol of a nation’s grief, The Grave of the Unknown Warrior.
