My Xperience I Lived in San Francisco for 5 years (1997- 2002) and during those years I lived all over this beautiful city. I attended the University of San Francisco (Hence the plentyful Bar / Nightclub Entries). I stayed the first two years at the university, considering the over-the-top rent (Courtesy the Tech Boom). My first real house was the Baker Beach (Superb Views of the Golden Gate Bridge and The Marin Headlands)Apartments of the Presidio for around a year or more, apart from being a historical site, you just can't beat falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing and the foghorn. I got to stay right next to Sea Cliff (The Premiere Neighborhood in SF) and share a beach with the likes of Robin Williams and Sharon Stone for a fraction of the rent. Also i was a stone's throw away from the Palace de Legion of Honor. This was the Ideal Party House with ample room (read beds) and no pesky neighbors complaining. I later moved over to this lovely apartment on a hill over looking SF in the Anza-Masonic neighborhood around the Wallenberg High School. These were perhaps the most debaunch years of my life till date. A great city bursting at it's seems with life and an equally volatile group of friends made for some mindnumbing escapades which almost always led to wild stories I will always look fondly upon my years in San Francisco |
My Thoughts While in this most bohemian of cities, I came across some great revelations about life and people. Some might argue it was the age I was going through (college, end of my teen years, new experiences etc) but I'd like to think it's the ambiance, the free spirit of reckoning and doubting is prevailent all over this revolutionary city. The 60's started here (haight ashbury), The Punk Scene was Huge in SF when it brought about the death of Disco and now the Technology Revolution. It isn't just coincidence that SF was and is the staging ground for all these norm altering movements. The city has a great capacity for change and has always accepted it with open arms, compared to most regions which tend to be change adverse. The people ooze this strength to take on change and not be frigthened by the unknown, the weather is cold, windy and unpredictable but there is always a chance of a sunny day at any time in the year. It's a city that keeps rebuilding itself The Gold rush, The fire of 1906, The Great depression, The 60's, and now the Tech Boom. All started here and brought this city ample wealth, but along with it they gave it something more, A LEGACY. |
