Franschoek -- The Wine Region's Best

by SESM - last update: Jul 6, 2003

A taste of France in the W. Cape

Franschoek's Town Hall
Franschoek is about an hour or so drive from Cape Town. It is fast outpacing Stellenbosch as the favorite wine region destination! The charming small town nestled in the mountains was settled by the Hugenots (hence the French connection!). The town boasts many of the best South African restaurants, vineyards and lovely places to stay.

Old Achim is quite a character. I had the honor of meeting him a while back and he invited us to his famous tasting "ceremony" NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!

That opening-shot brings back great memories, I see myself sitting again in the small restaurant looking to the mountains. And indeed the wine is superb.
