Half the Fun is Getting There... Situated about 6 hours drive from Cape Town along the famous Garden Route is the town of Knysna. This town was voted (again!) best town in S. Africa and it is easy to see why -- scenery, good food, lots to do and see. But perhaps the best part is the drive. Driving out of Cape Town through the dramatic Sir. Lowry Pass one soon comes to the Garden Route which goes along the sea with dramatic mountains to the other side and farmland and aloes throughout. You pass near many lovely towns on the way that are worth a stop. Here's Mossel Bay where the Garden Route first moves along the coast! |

| | Knysna "Nice, Na?" The town of Knysna boasts a lagoon, a developed harbor with shops and restaurants, a main drag with more shops and restaurants, an excellent art gallery!, and the famous Knysna Heads -- two high promontories very close together that seem to guard the entrance to the ocean. One has houses on it and the other is a nature preserve that is worth touring. |

| | Oysters galore Oysters are what Knysna is really known for! And in mid July the town fills for the week-long Oyster Festival. There are lots of places to get fresh Oysters but the most famous is the Knysna Oyster Company. By the way, all of the seafood is spectacular in Knysna! |
