Do what the Brits themselves do - lunch in a pub. Lunchtime is also often one of the occasions when children are welcome in pubs so you can eat as a family. Not all pubs serve food, but bigger ones tend to, and what is on offer is typical fare such as shepherds' pie, fish & chips, steak & kidney pie, various sausages (depending on region) and mash, and of course the famous Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings as Sunday is a day when families often go out for a meal and they want a big one even if puddings are served on other days too. If you have room for afters, expect things like apple pie or profiteroles. All of course washed down with a pint of local beer :) Pubs taking pride in their kitchen, or just having enough resources, often serve meals in the evenings too but there is generally a break between services in the afternoon.

Restaurant Name: Mumtaz Paan House
Europe's biggest Asian restaurant. As it is a Pakistani restaurant, alcohol is not sold but who cares when their mango lassi is the best in Europe (also sold at Harrods!). Even the baby high chairs were Asian as you can see and children were welcomed. For those of you from Sweden, I can tell you that this is the restaurant that inspired 'Indiska' to write their Indian cookbook and a copy of it is displayed in a glass cabinet!
Favorite Dish: Paneer in chestnut sauce...mmmmm...

Restaurant Name: Tattershall Castle
As a pub, it is average but what is special is that it is on the Tattershall Castle ship, moored just a stones throw from the Houses of Parliament. In nice weather, you can sit on sundeck and watch Big Ben and riverlife and feel you are in London.
Favorite Dish: Ploughmans lunch - a plate with cheese, apple etc.
