Cologne, or Köln as is its proper German name, is a city I have a hard time getting to grips with. A place where I have often strolled around for a couple of hours in between trains from Brussels to Sweden and vice versa, I have now found more reasons to visit it properly as my cousin moved here some years ago. This means I will get more time to discover the city from a local point of view and hopefully discover more secrets about this "split personality" that is on one hand one of Germany's oldest cities full of Roman remains from when they first made this a "colony" and with the wonderfully lively river Rhine, and at the other an architecturally messy city centre with an over rated cathedral and sourly waiters. |
| | The more I visit, the more I get to know of the history of Cologne which in Medieval days was the biggest European city north of the Alps! There is so much to see if you bother to ignore the concrete and look at little messages in the streets as you walk along. |

| Pros: | "great nightlife and restaurants, lots of good museums, majestic Rhine" | | Cons: | "concrete chunks of city centre" | | In A Nutshell: | "Kölle! Alaf!" |
